This coffee comes from the Chelchele station, located in the kebele (village) of Chelchele, in the Kochere district of the Yirgacheffe region. Farmers in this area generally do not have access to fertilisers or pesticides and therefore do not use them in coffee production.
According to the Oxford English Dictionary, the word “heirloom” is defined as “a valuable object that has belonged to a family for several generations.” In the context of coffee, it serves as a broad, non-specific term for the thousands of genetically diverse, native varieties found in Ethiopia, the birthplace of coffee. These ancient plants have been growing and naturally cross-breeding for centuries.
